There’s a lot to love about this RWD Lancia Rally 037.
A product of the equally glamorous and deadly Group B era, this supercharged, mid-engined, screamer remains atop the history books as the last rear wheel-drive WRC Champion.
In 1983, the 037 won Lancia the manufacturer’s world title thanks to a bit of help from a certain German hellraiser by the name of Walter Röhrl. This particular car currently sitting within the spacious confines of K2 Motorcars is an Evo 2 variant, which unfortunately could not back up the 1983 title against its AWD competition.
Today, with 500+ horsepower sport coupes and sedans benefiting from the confidence that comes with traction at all four corners, it can be hard to grasp just how absolutely mental it must have been to pilot the 037 not only on tarmac – but through narrow forest corridors and across loose gravel and shifting dirt. Of course, the requisite Martini livery makes for a timeless look that will be appreciated for generations to come.
