2011 Ferrari 599 GTO
After years of a long awaited successor to the Ferrari 550 and later 575 Maranello, the 599 GTB was debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006.
Designed by Ken Okayama of PininFarina and powered by a 6.0L V12 which had evolved from the Ferrari Enzo, the 599 became a legend shortly after its public release.
To prove that Ferrari’s Grand Tourer was a true descendent of the 250 GT, A track-only 599XX arrived three years later. In the same vein as the Enzo and FXX, Ferrari’s Formula 1 team set to work trimming weight, improving aerodynamics, and uprating its V12 to 720 horsepower at 9,000 RPM. F1 Grade Carbon Ceramic brakes were also fitted.
Then came the 599 GTO. Announced in the spring of 2010 resurrected the three most important letters in Ferrari’s heritage. This was only the third GTO Ferrari ever produced, following in the footsteps of the 250 GTO and the 288 GTO. Under the hood of the GTO lay a 670 horsepower V12 engine paired to a version of the 599XX single clutch gearbox. This combination was good for up to 208 miles per hour and a 0-60 of 3.35 seconds.
Ferrari produced just 599 examples of which 125 came to the United States.
